There are two options for homeschooling in the state of Maine. Those homeschooling under the home instruction option may use the forms below as instructed.
Use certified mail, return receipt requested, for all required items you mail the S.A.U. or Commissioner. Staple all green postal receipts to the appropriate copy.

Within 10 days of the beginning of home instruction, send your notice simultaneously to your local S.A.U. (at the appropriate address) and the Maine Commissioner of Education (Department of Education, 23 State House Station, Augusta, ME, 04333-0023).
Use certified mail, return receipt requested, for all required items you mail the S.A.U. or Commissioner.
State law requires that you maintain copies of the required notice, annual letters, and assessments until the student’s home instruction concludes.
By September 1 of each following year, you must send a letter to the S.A.U. and Commissioner stating whether you intend to continue home instruction for the child(ren). With both copies, you must include the annual assessment for each student still of compulsory attendance age who is continuing in home instruction.

State law requires that you maintain copies of the required notice, annual letters, and assessments until the student’s home instruction concludes. We strongly recommend you keep all required records at least until the student’s higher education and any trade or professional school and any associated licensure is concluded.
