“This grant allowed me not just to continue to homeschool, but to experience the freedom and joy to dream when it felt like dreams—and hopes—for my children had died,” Kristen, a single-parent curriculum grant recipient, shared with us.

Last fiscal year, thousands of generous friends partnered with us financially to help families like Kristen’s continue homeschooling in hard financial times through HSLDA’s Compassion Grants.

Over 1,200 curriculum grants helped these struggling families purchase curriculum and supplies, cover a class or co-op fee, pay for therapies and equipment for children with special needs, purchase strategic educational technology, and afford other important educational materials.

But the impact of these grants went far beyond the curriculum.

For some families, the grant—and the support the grant represented—gave them the encouragement they needed both to continue homeschooling and to dare to once again dream for their children!

Below is a page from our yearbook of families who were served last year. Their thanks belong to you—the homeschool community—who helped renew their hope by your support of HSLDA.

When crushing tragedy hit our family last spring, I was not sure if I could continue homeschooling.

Knowing that someone cared enough to help a homeschooling family facing tragedy has made a huge impact on me.

I can provide a rich, full homeschool year for my children.

I also had the joy of browsing catalogs, choosing books, and dreaming about the great things I want for my children . . . it was a piece of hope after overwhelming tragedy, and I am so grateful.

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts!

My beloved husband, Jason, went to be with the Lord in 2008. There is no way to describe in a few words the ongoing devastation that befalls a family when the father of the family dies.

After Jason’s death, one of the greatest burdens and questions on my heart as I embraced my role as sole protector and guardian of my precious children was ‘how will we continue to homeschool?’

God is good, and HSLDA’s Compassion Grants have been some of the greatest blessings and encouragements along our journey

It was so wonderful to be able to say ‘yes’ to the things my girls were wanting to learn and have for the school year.

I can’t wait for the day I, too, can give donations to other single moms seeking to homeschool their children.”

Thank you so much for making a difference for so many families in need.

There are very few things in life more rewarding to us than teaching and discipling our children.

The grant is a true blessing from people with wonderful hearts. Thank you for helping in such an impactful way.

This is such a huge help to us because it’s allowed my children to stay in the co-op that they’ve been doing for the last seven years. They’ve gone through so much—I didn’t want them to lose that as well.

Not only has your generosity been a blessing that provided what I could not during this season in our lives, but it has also been a beautiful example to my children. Each of us is grateful to you for giving to and for prioritizing those you have never even met.

The effects of job loss were something our family had no experience with.

Through you, God has done ‘exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think.’ Thank you so much for walking with us through this challenging time.
