  • Natalie serves HSLDA in a dual role as a High School Educational Specialist and Military Outreach Coordinator.  
  • As a high school specialist, she specializes in providing guidance for the journey from high school to graduation, whether it be on to college, career, or military service.  
  • As the Military Community Outreach Coordinator, Natalie offers individualized support and encouragement to military homeschooling families. Natalie also provides consultations, resources, and training to school liaison officers, military homeschool support groups, and state homeschool organizations through Facebook Lives, webinars, workshops, and conventions. 
  • After graduating four of her own to college and two on to graduate school, she has vast experience in consulting for a variety of post-high school opportunities, including NCAA. 
  • Having worked with military homeschool support groups for over 20 years, Natalie leads a large military support group at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. She is a passionate homeschool advocate and works with many military support organizations such as Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC), Blue Star Families (BSF), USAF, USN, USMC, USCG School Liaison Programs, and Military Recruiters.  
  • Natalie and her husband (a retired Navy Chaplain) homeschooled four children to college and are currently homeschooling an 11th grader.

In return for speaking at your event, we request that hosts cover all travel and related expenses and, if applicable, provide a complimentary exhibit booth/table for HSLDA. Honorariums are greatly appreciated but not required.

Military homeschooling families need support from your state organization, but reaching them can be challenging. This workshop outlines several key components of a solid military outreach program that will benefit both military homeschoolers and state organizations.

Homeschooling in the Military 

Why do military families choose to homeschool? The last survey completed by Blue Star Families estimates that at least 6% of military families homeschool. This number is continuing to rise post-COVID as more military families choose to homeschool. This session will give an overview of these reasons and examine some of the challenges—and solutions—to  homeschooling military-style.

Military Homeschool Support Groups and School Liaison Officers (SLO)

A functional and mutually beneficial relationship can exist between the SLO and an installation’s military homeschooling community. This workshop offers military homeschool support group leaders tried and true methods to build and maintain that relationship.
