If you are homeschooling a child with special needs, you need to follow your state’s homeschool regulations. There are no additional requirements for homeschooling children with special needs.
Since homeschool families are technically operating a private school in Kentucky, a homeschool student may be entitled to special education services. Every homeschool family should receive a “declaration of participation” form from their local school district in early spring. While completion of this form is not necessary, if you desire to obtain services you will need to indicate your intent to participate in services. For more information see the section entitled Available Services for Private Schools from the Kentucky Department of Education
Note: As you decide what kind of special needs services and therapy best meet your child’s needs, we want you to know that HSLDA Compassion Curriculum Grants are available to help with diagnostic services, therapy, curriculum, or other educational materials.
