Proposal letters are used when a young adult wants to ask a business or craftsman if they would be willing to open a position for them as an intern or apprentice. (Read more about apprenticeships and internships here).
A proposal letter is similar in structure to a cover letter in that it introduces an applicant to a prospective employer. It adds context to what is listed in a resume and gives your teen the chance to highlight their interest in the company or job, and explain how their education, training, experiences, and interests make them an ideal candidate for consideration. But a proposal letter also adds a pitch of sorts, detailing what your teen would like to do at the company.
Please note that if a teen is applying to a formal opening that is being listed by a company, they should use a cover letter instead.
