Compulsory Education Age

7–16 years old

Legal Status

Although currently legal, homeschooling was originally banned in 2012 due to the passage of the new Law of Education, which stated that each child must attend school. The Lithuanian Homeschool Association worked with the Ministry of Education for several years with a view to lifting the ban.

In December of 2019, after a 3 hour long conference in parliament, 75 members voted in favor of the education change, with none voting against and only 7 abstaining. The supplementary article, which included family education in the Law of Education as Act No 31 (1), was approved.
