If you are homeschooling a child with special needs, you need to follow your state’s homeschool regulations. There are no additional requirements for homeschooling children with special needs.
Under the private school option, homeschool students may be eligible for special education services. However, no private school student has an individual right to receive some or all of the special education and related services that the student would receive when enrolled in a public school. See § 901 of Bulletin 1530. Home study students do not qualify for services in Louisiana. See Students with Exceptionalities in the BESE- Approved Home Study Guidelines
Note: As you decide what kind of special needs services and therapy best meet your child’s needs, we want you to know that HSLDA Compassion Curriculum Grants are available to help with diagnostic services, therapy, curriculum, or other educational materials.
