Summary of S.F. 4458

Under current law, students must provide proof of vaccination to enroll in any school, including a homeschool. As an alternative, parents may submit a medical or conscientious exemption. Homeschooling families provide this information when they begin homeschooling and again in 7th grade.

This bill would remove a parent’s ability to submit a conscientious objection for any vaccines.

As a result, students without a medical exemption would be required to receive all required vaccines to enroll in school, including homeschooling. Families who do not comply could face truancy concerns.

We believe that medical decisions should be left up to parents in consultation with the medical professionals they choose, not enforced by government mandates.
