Legal Status
Homeschooling is legal in Honduras.
The Constitution gives parents the right to choose the type of education, including home education, they will provide for their children (Article 152, Constitution of Honduras; Law of Fundamental Education).
There are two primary regulations governing home education:
- The Rule of Education in the Home (Agreement 1367-SE-2014): Establishes the rules for operating and evaluating home schools.
- The Guidelines for the Functionality of Home Education (Agreement 0368-SE-2020): Lists the administrative and educational requirements to implement in home education, such as required registration, subjects, compulsory age, qualifications to educate at home, evaluation, and more.
