The North Carolina legislature passed Senate Bill 704, which includes several changes in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Governor Cooper signed the bill into law on May 4, 2020.
For the 2019–2020 school year only, homeschools (and all nonpublic schools) will not be required to do any of the following:
- Test students using a nationally standardized test or other nationally standardized equivalent measurement
- Make and maintain attendance records
- Operate on a regular schedule for at least nine calendar months
HSLDA applauds this legislative action that protects homeschooling students from unhealthy social conduct because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
