July 1 | NJ Legislature goes on recess

The New Jersey Legislature is on recess as of July 1, so there is currently no movement on this bill. We believe the legislature will return on November 5, 2025. You may still contact your Assemblyman even though the legislature is on recess.

June 16 | Bill is filed

Assemblyman Sterley Stanley filed Assembly Bill 5825 on June 16. This bill would require every homeschooling family to register annually and to submit to their school district a curriculum that “aligns” with the state’s New Jersey Student Learning Standards. It also requires every family to submit an evaluation letter from a qualified person who has reviewed a portfolio of their student’s work certifying that “appropriate” education is occurring.

Please call, email, or visit Sterley Stanley, the sponsor of the bill, if he is your assemblyman. (Not sure if he is your assemblyman? Check here.)

Your message can be as simple as: “Please withdraw A. 5825. New Jersey law already requires homeschool students to receive instruction equivalent to that of public school. No new laws are needed.”
