We have previously let you know that the Maryland Department of Education is reviewing a host of COMAR regulations governing homeschooling in Maryland. Both MACHE and HSLDA have filed public comments in support of homeschool freedom.

We additionally traveled to Baltimore on August 26 to provide public comment in support of homeschooling before the Maryland State Board of Education. You can watch the presentation that LaNissir James, the executive director of MACHE, and I gave here, starting at the 24 minute and 50 second mark.

After LaNissir and I spoke, the Maryland State Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Carey Wright, gave her remarks. She explained the process for regulatory changes, and clarified the current regulatory review is a regular process, and is not related to any contemplated changes to the regulations governing homeschooling.

You can watch her comments on this topic starting at the 48 minute mark on the YouTube link above.

After this, LaNissir and I also had several conversations with MSDE staff who provided verbal support for homeschooling freedom and homeschooling families, and who also told us that no changes are contemplated to the COMAR regulations governing homeschooling.

We thank those of you who filed public comments during this regulatory review process. We will continue to monitor this process.

As a homeschool graduate and homeschooling dad, it is a privilege to stand with you and our friends at MACHE in defense of our homeschool freedom in Maryland.
