We continue to advocate for homeschooling families in Georgia to ensure that Senate Bill 63 is fully implemented by school districts across Georgia.
As you may recall, thanks to the advocacy of our friends at GHEA, the Georgia Legislature passed, and Governor Brian Kemp signed into law, S.B. 63, the “Quality Basic Education Act.” It requires school districts to let homeschool students take certain tests (like the SAT and ACT) in the local school district. It removed discrimination that happened only too often by school districts against homeschool students. You can read the statute here.
Despite the clarity of the law, we have had to remind several school districts about the change. We recently heard that Cobb County School District had told several homeschool students that they could not take the PSAT. We quickly contacted the district and are pleased to report that they immediately backed down.
If you are having difficulty registering your homeschool student to take the PSAT, SAT, PreACT, ACT, ASVAB, or AP exam in your local school district, please contact us to let us know.
As a homeschool graduate and a homeschooling dad, it is my privilege to advocate for homeschooling families in the Peach State.
