The Hot Springs school district sent a letter to homeschool families in March that contained several significant errors about testing. An alert HSLDA member family brought it to our attention.
HSLDA Senior Counsel Scott Woodruff wrote to the school district. He pointed out that the school’s assertion that the school itself must administer the testing was incorrect. He also pointed out that the school’s claim that 8th and 11th graders must be tested in science was incorrect. He mentioned some additional problematic parts of the letter.
The school system responded promptly and soon sent a letter of correction to families.
Sometimes errors crop up just because of staff turnover in public schools, or because form letters continue to be used long after they become obsolete. But we appreciate the quick response of Hot Springs and their willingness to send a follow-up letter to area homeschool families.
