HSLDA Helps Resolve Arkansas Educational Neglect Investigation

Recently, Home School Legal Defense Association successfully assisted a member family in Carroll County, Arkansas, who was being investigated by the Division of Children and Family Services (DCFS).

The parents instruct their children at their family-owned business, where the children also work part-time. A customer questioned the children about being on the premises during school hours, then contacted DCFS, prompting the investigation.

However, the family was in full compliance with Arkansas' home school law, which the social worker was able to verify by contacting local public school officials. After speaking with an HSLDA attorney and visiting the family's place of business, the social worker determined that there was no basis for the allegation of educational neglect.
