Farris Attends Summit with House/Senate Leaders

WASHINGTON D.C.—An impressive array of social conservative, family group leaders met with House leaders this week to discuss how their common goals might be advanced in the 107th Congress.

The by-invitation-only meeting was hosted by House Majority Whip Tom DeLay (TX) and Congressman Joe Pitts (PA) who chairs the Values Action Team in the House.

Attendees included HSLDA's Mike Farris, James Dobson (Focus on the Family), Phyllis Schlaffly (Eagle Forum), Chuck Colson (Prison Fellowship), Janet Parshall (Janet Parshall's America radio), and Carl Herbster (American Association of Christian Schools). Family Research Council, the American Family Association, Concerned Women for America, and similar organizations were represented as well.

Also present were House Speaker Dennis Hastert (IL), Majority Leader Dick Armey (TX), and Senators Tim Hutchinson (AR) and Sam Brownback (KS).

"We share some common goals," said Farris. "We really appreciate Mr. DeLay giving us the opportunity to promote the interests of our members directly to these important members of Congress."

Mr. DeLay encouraged the group to focus on 2 Chronicles 7:14; "If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." (NKJ)
