German Family Pleads for Help from European Court of Human Rights
Dirk and Petra Wunderlich have been fighting for more than a decade to homeschool their four children. Now their case will be heard by Europe’s top human rights court.
What’s at stake?
Families who want to homeschool in Germany face tremendous pressure, the worst of which is the German government’s willingness to violently remove children from their homeāas they did to the Wunderlichs. A victory in Wunderlich v. Germany would establish that such behavior is not acceptable under Germany’s international legal obligations to the European Convention of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. It would also deter other European countries from using such in terrorem tactics against families.
