Come join us in celebrating our 35th anniversary! That’s 35 years (and counting) of standing up for homeschool freedom, creating lasting family memories, igniting a lifelong love of learning in our children, and making homeschooling possible—together!
The anniversary fun will go on all year long! Each month in 2018, we’ll invite you to celebrate with us the wonderful ways in which homeschooling plays out in real life—in your life—through sharing your photos, stories, essays, Facebook comments, and videos that illustrate a particular theme. (And enter to win cool prizes!)
Want a sneak peek at what’s coming up? You can see our planned celebrations for each month below along with all the details, including how to submit your entries, dates, and prizes!
What does love of learning look like to you? Post a photo of your child's favorite place to study.
Homeschool moms are superheroes: Create and submit a movie poster or video trailer of homeschool moms . . . as superheroes!
Does your dad have a secret talent? Can he kill seven flies with one blow? Can he make the best Saturday morning pancakes anyone’s ever eaten? Can he build an awesome treehouse with a screwdriver, duct tape, and one hand tied behind his back? Create a video to showcase your dad’s secret talent and enter to win big bucks toward a fun adventure for your family!
As we celebrate our country’s birthday, we’re grateful for the unique commitment to individual rights and freedoms we enjoy in America. This freedom makes homeschooling possible! What do you value most about your freedom to homeschool?
Parents, kids, families—everyone is welcome to enter this contest! In honor of this freedom, select your preferred way to tell your story: it could be a poem, a drawing, an essay, a photo, a video—whatever you can dream up!
One of the great things about homeschooling is its flexibility to adapt to each child’s and each family’s needs. What makes your homeschool unique? What creative approach makes homeschooling possible for your family?
Do you work remotely or have a part-time job? Participate in a local homeschool group? Use curriculum that fits your child’s learning habits? Whatever makes it possible for you, we want to hear about it!
Submit a story or a short explanation of what makes homeschooling possible for your family. (150 words or less)
Do you enjoy snapping a pic of your kids on their first day of school each year? Are you a Pinterest mom with the perfectly staged chalkboard-sign-holding kids? Or the git-er-done mom where every kid is (mostly) in the frame and only one kid couldn’t find his shoes? Or is getting any photo a fond wish at this point? We’ve all been there!
Whatever way you like to launch your new school year, let’s celebrate the new school year together! You can submit your back-to-homeschool photo using the details below.

Everyone needs a break. And we bet that even if your family homeschools year-round, you took a little break this summer.
Kids, parents, pets: Tell us about your summer adventure. Submit your photo or photo collage, essay, video, poem . . . be creative! (And staycations count, too!)
If you were describing what homeschooling looks like to someone who had never met a homeschooler before, what would you show them? What does homeschooling look like at your house? Share your photos!
2018 is HSLDA’s 35th anniversary! We want to hear about your homeschool anniversary! Who in your family proposed homeschooling? How did you start? How has your homeschool changed since you began?
Tell your story in 150 words or less. Bonus points for including then-and-now photos! (Of course, if you just started, “now” is just fine!)
Homeschooling—is it on your list of the things you’re thankful for? Let’s gather together and create Facebook’s biggest-ever post celebrating all the things we’re thankful for about homeschooling. (We’ll bring the pie!)
Be sure you’re following our page so you don’t miss your chance to participate. Please invite your homeschooling friends and neighbors to jump in to the party!
December is “the most wonderful time of the year!” (And BUSY! And sometimes stressful. 😳) Instead of asking you to do anything this month, each week we’ll be sharing with you some of the funniest, most touching, and most compelling pictures, essays, videos, etc. that you have shared with us this year. Be sure to follow us on Facebook so you don’t miss anything!
