CA Dept of Health Stops Discriminating Against Homeschoolers

As we all know, it can take time for government bureaucracies to make even minor changes. But after years of pressure from Home School Legal Defense Association, the California Department of Health has finally changed its discriminatory policy against homeschool graduates.
As we have reported several times over the last few years, homeschool graduates like Sandra Rivera and Jephanie Barnes who wanted to serve as phlebotomists in California had run into difficulties with the Department of Health. Although state regulations require only a high school diploma, numerous homeschool graduates were being told that since they hadn’t graduated from an accredited high school, they couldn’t be licensed.
HSLDA is glad to report that due to our continuing efforts, the most recent homeschool applicant experienced no difficulty at all with her diploma. Ms. Higby submitted her paperwork, including her homeschool diploma, and was speedily issued her phlebotomy license. We’re looking forward to Ms. Higby’s successful career!
