Major Victory in California

AB 291 - Postpartum Screening (Assembly Member Paul Koretz) - positively amended before dying in the Assembly - a Major Victory!!

HSLDA is passing on this NEWSFLASH from Roy Hanson and Jim Davis of Family Protection Ministries (FPM).

God gave grace to all families as we opposed this bill until it was later amended to protect innocent mothers of newborn children from being subjected to unconstitutionally intrusive scrutiny of their private lives.

California Assembly Bill AB 291, as it was initially introduced last year, would have required (under threat of a fine) that doctors screen pregnant women and new mothers for "postpartum mood and anxiety disorders" at least seven different times, starting with the first prenatal visit and ending no earlier than the child's 12 month well baby visit.

This screening would have subjected expectant and new mothers to an involuntary, intrusive, and highly subjective psychological evaluation with unknown repercussions. We thank God that the author of AB 291 removed this objectionable requirement before it later died in the Assembly.

No action is required on AB 291.

Permission given to reprint or forward this Newsflash unaltered to your friends, church, school, and group.
