Honoring Treon Goossen

Homeschooling in Colorado.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Treon’s family.

HSLDA staff attorney Mike Donnelly helps protect homeschool freedom in your community.

Dear HSLDA Members and Friends:

Many of you now are aware that our dear friend and homeschooling advocate for many years, Treon Goossen, passed away on Monday evening.

Treon championed homeschooling in Colorado for decades and was instrumental in fighting for the freedoms that Colorado homeschoolers now enjoy.

Treon worked tirelessly with HSLDA for many years, attending hearings and building relationships with legislators and their staff to ensure that homeschooling and parental rights would not be jeopardized in the many bills put forth each session. It is fitting that Colorado Senator Kevin Lundberg paid tribute to Treon on the Senate floor yesterday.

Treon’s energy, enthusiasm and commitment to principle was unparalleled. She invested her heart and soul into serving the homeschool community. She worked long hours to make sure that homeschooling and parental freedoms were protected, and we all owe her, and her family who sacrificed alongside her, a tremendous debt of gratitude.

Treon always told me that her service to the homeschool community was her calling, and now that she has been called home our thoughts and prayers are with her family.

We encourage you to recognize Treon’s remarkable impact at her memorial service 10 a.m., Friday, May 13, at Calvary Chapel Eastside (5070 Edison Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80915).

Please keep the Goossen family in your prayers. You are welcome to show additional support for the family online.

Have You Ever Yelled into the Wind, Only to Hear the Sound of Your Voice Blown back at You?

It’s hard to be heard in the midst of a storm. Trying to influence federal legislation is much like yelling to be heard while standing in a fierce wind. Yet when 80,000 voices join together, they become a powerful force that cannot be drowned out. Join HSLDA to be heard above the tempests that threaten homeschool freedoms.
