Dear HSLDA Members and Friends:

On April 28 Loving Education at Home (LEAH) will be hosting a Legislative Day at the Capitol to help educate your elected officials about homeschooling. The scheduled events include a legislative briefing, several meetings with various legislators on homeschool related bills and a tour of the Capitol building. There will also be time for individuals to meet with their elected official when possible.

I strongly believe that that it is important for homeschool families to be involved in the Legislative Day at the Capitol on April 28. When legislators meet real homeschooling families they have a better foundation to make decisions regarding legislation that impacts all of us.

There are several bills that would impact homeschooling in New York again this year. Currently there are two bills, Assembly Bill 3678 and Senate Bill 2175, which would allow homeschool students to participate in extracurricular activities. HSLDA is generally neutral about extracurricular bills. We are also hopeful that some positive changes can proposed this year for greater homeschool freedom in New York.

We continue to work closely with NYS LEAH regarding these bills and others that occasionally come to our attention. We continue to look at ways to positively impact homeschool freedom in New York both in and out of the legislature. It is my hope that we can work towards reducing the homeschool regulation in New York for the benefit of all homeschooling families.

However, if we are to prevent further encroachment in New York and work towards greater homeschool freedom it is vital that homeschool families have an impact in the New York Legislature. This is why it is so important for you to be involved in the upcoming New York Legislative Day. Please make your plans to come today! For more information from NYS LEAH please go here. Even though the deadline to register was originally April 1, it has been extended to April 10.

Requested Action

Come to the Legislative Day at the Capitol on April 28, 2015, to participate with NYS LEAH and represent homeschooling. You can register for the event by emailing Adirondacks@nysleah.org .

If you can’t come to the Legislative Day at the Capitol, please pray for the event. Educate yourself about the legislation that is being considered in the New York Legislature that will impact homeschoolers and parental rights by going here.

If you are not already part of a local homeschool support group you can find and join a local LEAH group in your area here. If you would like to simply donate to LEAH you can do so here. As it has been said “We must, indeed all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately.”

If you are not yet a member of HSLDA and would like to help us fight for greater parental rights and homeschool freedom in New York please click here.

If you would like to be put on our e-mail list to receive vital e-lerts you may sign up here.

Thank you for your part in fighting for freedom in New York! Feel free to forward this to your friends who are homeschooling but may not be part of HSLDA, or NYS LEAH.
