Dear HSLDA Members and Friends,

Today, HSLDA published a story about how the administration of Ritchie County Schools has apparently ordered a campaign to persuade parents to put their kids back in public school. Homeschoolers in the district have received calls questioning the parents’ competency to teach and pressuring families to enroll their children. Please take a moment to read this email and the story.

As a result of this unwelcome contact, local homeschoolers are planning to attend a public meeting of the Board of Education to discuss their concerns. I am encouraging homeschoolers in the area to attend to show support for homeschooling freedom. I hope that after this meeting school authorities will be ready to demonstrate more respect for the homeschooling community.

Action Requested

The meeting will take place on Monday, October 27, 2014, at 6:00 p.m. at Harrisville Elementary School (1201 East Main St. Harrisville, WV 26362).

For more information about the meeting contact Susie Pierce, a local homeschooling mom who has agreed to speak publically to the board about the issue. You can email her at Susiemk@hotmail.com.

Although I cannot attend this meeting, I am corresponding with the superintendent and the board. If necessary I will attend a future meeting.

Thank you for all your work in defending homeschooling freedom!

Very truly yours,

Mike Donnelly
