Tuesday afternoon, news broke that Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal vetoed a bill which would have cemented the Common Core in Louisiana public schools. In a nationally reverberating move, Governor Jindal then issued a series of executive orders effectively withdrawing Louisiana from the Common Core and Common Core-aligned tests.

We wrote last week that your calls made the difference in persuading Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin to sign legislation withdrawing Oklahoma from the Common Core. We also wrote that South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and Indiana Governor Mike Pence have also signed legislation pulling their states out of the Common Core. As a result, there are now nine states which are no longer part of the Common Core!

Battle Continues

Supporters of the Common Core in Louisiana are threatening to take Governor Jindal to court, so this battle may not yet be over in that state. We encourage you to contact Governor Jindal and thank him for standing for local control over education and against the Common Core.

We are seeing a nationwide backlash against the Common Core—and against the notion that educational elites in Washington, D.C. should decide how and what children learn in communities around the nation.

At HSLDA, we are working alongside you and numerous allies to defeat the Common Core. HSLDA is confident that due to the tireless efforts of parents like you, the Common Core—like Goals 2000, School to Work, Outcome Based Education, and other top-down education boondoggles—will eventually be defeated. Our freedom as homeschool parents ultimately depends on our continued vigilance.

You can read more online about our opposition to the Common Core and how you can help to defeat it.
