House Bill 733: Includes Homeschooling Textbooks in Tax Holiday
Representative Elizabeth W. Porter

House Bill 733 establishes a specific period during 2011 when the sale of clothing, wallets, bags, school supplies, and textbooks are exempt from sales tax. House Bill 733 specifically includes materials for "homeschooling" in the list of exempted items. Specifically, the bill states, "Textbooks having a sales price of $75 or less. As used in this paragraph, the term 'textbooks' means any required manual of instruction in any branch of study, including materials for homeschooling or postsecondary education."

The original bill, as filed, established the period of the "tax holiday" from August 12, 2011 through August 14, 2011. If approved, Amendment 419129 will extend the tax holiday from August 12, 2011 through August 21, 2011.
