House Bill 201 broadens the activities in which homeschool students may participate from "athletic activities" to "activities." Under current law a home school student is eligible to participate in up to three school district athletic activities at the public school in the attendance zone in which the student resides, according to the New Mexico activities association guidelines. If House Bill 201 passes, a homeschool student will still be limited to only three activities but could choose from more than just athletics. The school district will verify each homeschool student's academic eligibility to participate in the school district activities.
Interscholastic competitions and contests will continue to be governed by the New Mexico Activities Association; please review their website for more information on homeschool student eligibility for athletics and activities.
