State v. Mr. & Mrs. Edward Ortiz

Filed: September 10, 1998, San Antonio.

Nature of Case: The school district was not satisfied with the Ortiz letter of assurance and demanded more information on the curriculum. When the Ortizes refused, they were prosecuted for thwarting compulsory attendance. On the morning of the hearing, HSLDA persuaded the prosecution that Mr. and Mrs. Ortiz were in full compliance with Texas law, and the case was dismissed.
