Compulsory Attendance Age:
Homeschooling is legal. Article 68 of the Uruguayan Constitution states each parent has the right to choose the teachers or schools relative to their child's education. According to a statement from the Uruguayan Ministry of Education to HSLDA in April 2010, this includes the choice for parents to teach their children at home.
The Ministry further stated that families who wish to homeschool only need to make contact with school officials if they wish for their children to enter the Uruguayan public school system for secondary or higher education. In this case, homeschooled children will be required to take an exam that evaluates their knowledge and demonstrates whether or not they have learned what is required at the primary education level.
** No in-country homeschool contact information at this time. If you have knowledge of homeschooling in Uruguay, please contact HSLDA at email@example.com. Thank you!
