The first annual National Homeschool Football Tournament will be held November 19 – 23, 2008, in Panama City Beach, Florida. High school homeschool football teams from Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, South Carolina, and Virginia will be competing for a national homeschool championship in football.  For more details see: www.homeschool-football.com .  

The Christian Filmmakers Academy  is again being held in San Antonio, Texas, on January 5-7, 2009. Space is limited to 750 students, so please sign up quickly. The theme for this year is “Training Culture Changers for Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Technical Excellence in Media.” The website says that this Academy is for those who are “interested in filmmaking, screenwriting, or directing for the glory of God, or if you just want to learn about opportunities and avenues in the new world of independent Christian filmmaking.”

Patrick Henry College is sponsoring its first short story contest and invites students ages 12 – 18 to start writing!  Cash prizes are offered in two age categories. More details are listed on the PHC website. 

It’s not too late to submit an entry to the HSLDA Essay Contest, but the deadline is fast approaching!  All homeschoolers ages 7 – 19 are welcome to participate.  Essay contests are a wonderful way to encourage those reluctant writers!
