---------------------------------------------------------------------- From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- December 9, 2002 Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, The Nevada State Board of Education will cast their final vote on changes to homeschool regulations in just a few days. The Board meeting is scheduled for December 14, in Las Vegas, and by videoconference in Carson City. Although we have every indication the Board intends to approve the changes homeschoolers have requested, we encourage families to attend this historic meeting if at all possible. One reason these proposed changes are likely to go through is that homeschoolers have rallied to defend their constitutional rights. Earlier this year, there were grave concerns that the State Board of Education would take away the "approved" status of one science curriculum because, in the words of one Department of Education consultant, it was a "religion course with some science content." ACTION REQUESTED Show your support for homeschooling by attending the State Board of Education meeting on Saturday, December 14, in Las Vegas, or by videoconference in Carson City. The meeting is open to the public and will be held in the Department of Education Building, 1820 East Sahara, Las Vegas, in the Board Room. The videoconference in Carson City will be in Room 101 at the Department of Education Building at 700 E. 5th Street. The meeting will start at 1:30 p.m. Bring your well-behaved children (please find a babysitter for fussy babies!) and wear red, white, and blue for freedom! Very truly yours, Scott W.
