Two New Web Items - Blog Watch and RSS Feeds
Blog Watch is a new addition to the HSLDA Home Page. Internet blogs are growing rapidly and gaining influence. Our staff will be searching the available content and bringing you relevant pieces related to homeschooling.
The world of blogs is growing fast with some estimates showing the number of blogs doubling every 5 months. Many people are turning to blogs to have discussions or to find information explained in ways that traditional news stories do not consider. In several cases blogs have driven stories that the traditional media avoided. For example, the CBS Memogate scandal, where the fact-checking occurred on-line.
Homeschooling is no stranger to blogs. Therefore, in order to keep you informed about various debates within homeschooling, our staff will be searching the available content and bringing you relevant pieces related to homeschooling.
However, it should be remembered, as with stories within the “In The News” section, links do not imply endorsement. The diversity of viewpoints you will encounter in Blog Watch are for informational purposes only.
Real Simple Syndication (RSS)
RSS feeds are another new addition to the HSLDA website (RSS stands for Real Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary). What's an RSS feed you may ask? Essentially, it is an increasingly popular way to share information over the Internet.
Many of the regularly updated sections of our website, for example, “Top Stories” and “In The News” now have RSS links in their header bar.
RSS will allow you to receive information you actually want to receive because you will be the one in control of selecting the sources of the information.
If you have a RSS aggregator or reader be sure to check out our new feeds. If you run a website you can also put our feeds on your website. For more information on RSS and how it's used just search the web for RSS.
