HSLDA's National Conference Draws 300

Rapid City, SD was the site of this year's National Christian Home Educators Leadership Conference. Home School Legal Defense Association's National Center for Home Education hosts this event yearly for the board members of the statewide Christian homeschool organizations to help equip and encourage them. Inspirational speeches by HSLDA Chairman Mike Farris, HSLDA President Mike Smith, and Richard "Little Bear" Wheeler of Mantle Ministries were well received by the nearly 300 people in attendance. Ken Sande of Peacekeepers, International, Bob Biehl of Masterplanning Group International, Dr. Brian Ray of the National Home Education Research Institute, Bret Rudolph of Patrick Henry College, and Rick Grubbs of LifeChanging Seminars provided helpful information for the leaders representing 40 states. The expertise of the leaders themselves was well represented with workshops by Zan Tyler, Pam von Gohren, Jessica Hulcy, and Claiborne Thornton. Special music was provided by the Roby family of Montana. The work of the dedicated leaders in home education cannot be overstated. Much of the success in the modern homeschooling movement is due to the sacrifices of the board members of the state organizations of their time, money and effort. Comparing notes with other state leaders, touring Mt. Rushmore, the "Bad Lands", and other attractions rounded out the conference.
