Widows Curriculum Scholarship Fund is Working

Each year, we hear from many Home School Legal Defense Association member families who tell us that a parent has died. Their deep grief is often compounded by financial constraints that threaten their ability to continue home schooling. Until recently, all we could offer member families affected by such devastating loss was our heartfelt sympathy. However, with the establishment of the Widows Curriculum Scholarship Fund in March 2000, HSLDA has been able to assist these widows and orphans in a tangible way.

As of September 30, 2001, the Widows Curriculum Scholarship Fund has distributed more than $115,000 to needy widows and their families. The generosity of the home schooling community has been truly overwhelming-donations to the fund currently total over $200,000!

Recently, one widow wrote that she had seriously considered discontinuing home education and was praying about placing her children in public school when she received HSLDA's brochure regarding the Widows Fund. After reading the material, she was encouraged to see that other widows were able to continue home schooling and that hearts touched by her need were willing to help. She received an HSLDA scholarship and was able to continue home schooling.
