On Monday, Congress will return from a six-week recess. Although we do not yet know if the U.S. Senate will vote on the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) before Election Day in November, we are not sitting idle. We believe that a vote by the full Senate is a question of when, not if.
Can we count on you? Just as in 2012, the supporters of this dangerous UN treaty have unlimited money, resources, and the power of the federal government pushing for them. Yet they failed to ratify the treaty two years ago because of your phone calls and letters—and we believe we can defeat this treaty again.
Time for Action
Next week, we’ll be sending action alerts urging phone calls and emails to your two U.S. senators.
We want to make sure that when the senators return to Washington, D.C., that they hear loud and clear from We, the People, that this UN treaty must be defeated once and for all. Your calls to your senators will mean the difference between defeat and victory. Even if you have already called, please be ready to call again when you see our action alerts.
In the meantime, please feel free to browse our CRPD action page. We have updated it to reflect new changes in this battle, and to include new resources to help you as you educate your friends and neighbors and as you talk with your elected officials about this dangerous treaty.
We encourage you to read this excellent op-ed by Utah Senator Orrin Hatch. It was published last week and explains perfectly why the U.S. Senate must reject the CRPD.
