Mike Smith:
Though it may no longer be politically correct for fathers to protect their wives, as Christian homeschooling fathers we must take the lead in defending our families when anything threatens our homeschools. All too often, the homeschooling mom is bearing this burden.
Before a legal crisis arises, fathers can fulfill their role as the legal protector of their homeschooling program by doing the following: know your state law and develop a legal plan for your homeschool, take steps to complete that plan, and take the lead in resolving any legal issues that arise.
You can serve as a protector of your family in other areas as well.
Don't allow your wife or children to be harassed by family members who disagree with your decision to homeschool. Let your family members know that they should bring their complaints directly to you.
As homeschoolers, we really need to protect our families' schedules. People forget that school is the main focus of your wife's day, and they assume she's available to talk on the phone or provide childcare. Together, come up with a plan to limit this type of interruption. It will give your wife the freedom to make school her first priority.
Like the pioneer fathers, we need to be prepared to protect our family from any threat. Dads, that's our responsibility. And until next time, I'm Mike Smith.
