Hear it from the Judges

A picture is worth a thousand words. It is said so often it has become trite. But the truth of the statement is not lessened. A good photograph can capture reality and evoke emotion unlike any words. One picture can tell a life’s story in a moment. It can demand one's attention, prove a point, magnify a sentiment, and capture a slice of beauty forever-all in a single glance.

Photography has changed the world. Look at great works like the FSA photographs documenting the Great Depression, or visit National Geographic’s web photo galleries. A good photographer must learn the art of seeing the opportunities that exist all around and then decide the best way to capture them.

This contest is meant to encourage homeschool students to learn and develop the skills of good, powerful photography.
