"It is good to give thanks to the Lord..." -Psalm 92:1
I love the fact that Dr. Ben Carson always speaks so highly of his mother's strength and influence in his life. I've heard him say that his mom often reminded her young boys that God gave them brains, so they needed to use them. That reminds me of...
...our eleven years of homeschooling, and how I often told my boys, "God gave you a voice, and He wants to hear it." So I related that to prayer, and how that God wants all of us to praise Him, no matter what our age...
I love that in homeschooling, we have many opportunities throughout the day to pray with our kids and to hear their precious voices giving thanks to the Lord. That is such a wonderful blessing! It's absolutely delightful to hear the simplicity and sincerity of a child's prayer.
So, as you prepare for Thanksgiving, and as you reflect on God's goodness, I'd like to share this excerpt from Valley of Vision's, Praise and Thanksgiving prayer:
PRAISE AND THANKSGIVING
When I think upon and converse with thee
ten thousand delightful thoughts spring up,
ten thousand sources of pleasure are unsealed,
ten thousand refreshing joys spread over my heart,
crowding into every moment of happiness.
I bless thee for the soul thou has created,
for adorning it, sanctifying it,
though it is fixed in barren soil;
for the body thou has given me,
for preserving its strength and vigor,
for providing senses to enjoy delights,
for the ease and freedom of my limbs,
for hands, eyes, ears that do thy bidding;
for thy royal bounty providing my daily support,
for a full table and overflowing cup,
for appetite, taste, sweetness,
for social joys of relatives and friends,
for ability to serve others,
for a heart that feels sorrows and necessities,
for a mind to care for my fellow-men,
for opportunities of spreading happiness around,
for loved ones in the joys of heaven,
for my own expectation of seeing thee clearly.
I love thee above the powers of language to express,
for what thou art to thy creatures,
Increase my love, O my God, through time and eternity.
Have a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving! Thanks for reading the blog!
