One of the greatest joys I have as a follower of Jesus Christ is being a part of His body. The way that God has called us, as His people, to be in community with one another--to be loving and caring for one another and laying down our lives for each other--is an opportunity to demonstrate the reality of the gospel to those around us.
Isn't this what we do, moms, every day, as we love our husbands and our children? In laying down our lives for them we show that Christ is real and that the gospel has transformed our hearts from being self-seeking to selfless, from doing things in our own strength to walking by the power of the Spirit for the good of those we love and for God’s glory.
I was a stay-at-home mom for over 23 years (from the time our first child, Bethany was born), and have loved every minute of it. Since Chris’s passing in 2009, however, I now work part-time to help provide for my children and me. While I would prefer to be a full-time stay-at-home mom still, I am grateful, nevertheless, that God has blessed me with an opportunity to work in the same way I have been a wife and mother—loving and caring for others, for God’s glory.
As the director of development for the Home School Foundation, I have the privilege of using my time and skills to help other homeschooling families in need, build a partnership with families who also have a heart to bless homeschoolers, and work alongside some wonderful, godly coworkers.
For those of you who might be unfamiliar with the Home School Foundation and what we do to serve the homeschool community, I’d like to invite you to listen to this episode of Generations with Vision Christian radio broadcast, hosted by Kevin Swanson, as he interviews me about my work with the Home School Foundation, and shares Chris Arni’s story. As one of our grant families, Chris’s story of tragedy, yet also God’s faithfulness to provide for her family and their great joy in Him is inspiring. I hope you’ll take the time to listen to this broadcast and come away encouraged that God cares for every family that puts their hope and trust in Him!
