HSLDA’s @home e•vents program showcases speakers who are experts in their fields and often leaders in the homeschool community. They’ve been in your shoes and want to come alongside you in your journey to enhance your family’s homeschooling experience! Our speakers possess the breadth of experience, talent, and enthusiasm suited for encouraging you and equipping you with relevant tools.
Past e•vents have included presentations by well-known authors and speakers, such as Andrew Pudewa, Lou Priolo, Dr. Jay Wile, Jeff Myers, and Hal and Melanie Young, as well as experienced homeschooling parents and homeschool graduates. HSLDA staff speakers have included President J. Michael Smith, Chairman Michael P. Farris, many other attorneys, and some of our Special Needs, High School, and Early Years coordinators, such as Dianne Craft, Vicki Bentley, Becky Cooke, and Diane Kummer.
Jayme Metzgar is both a homeschool graduate and a homeschooling mother. The second-eldest daughter of HSLDA founder Mike Farris, Jayme was homeschooled K–12 and traveled to Romania for a year of mission work at the age of 19. While in Romania, she worked in the foreign relations office of Emanuel Baptist University and volunteered at Hope House Family Center, a private orphanage. Upon her return to the U.S. in 1998, Jayme founded the small non-profit organization Romania Reborn to support Hope House’s work among abandoned children. She has also taken several short-term trips to Romania and Mexico to visit and assist missionaries on the field. Today, she continues to serve as the president of Romania Reborn, working from her home. She is active in her local church, community, and homeschool support group. Along with her mother, Vickie Farris, Jayme is coauthor of the book A Mom Just Like You: The Home Schooling Mother. She lives in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, with her husband Todd and their four daughters, ages 3–8, whom she educates at home.
The Least of These: Helping Your Children Develop a Heart for Missions
Reaching out to the lonely. To the needy. To the broken. Scripture tells us that whatever we do “for the least of these” we have done for Christ. Jayme Metzgar has a heart for “the least of these” around the world, and she also has ideas for how to help your kids begin to have a heart for missions. She will present creative ways to raise awareness among the young people in your family and community. She’ll also provide practical tips on how to help your kids put their heart for missions into action. Even more importantly, you’ll gain a new perspective as Jayme shares her heart. A homeschooling mom of four, Jayme spent time serving in Romania as a young woman and has started a non-profit called Romania Reborn to reach out to the children of that country. Prepare to be touched and inspired by this @home e-vent!
