7/12/2010 (10PM EST): Learn About Home Ed Expert - A New, Online Tool For Choosing Curriculum
Homeschool curriculum choices should reflect the unique needs of each family and child as much as possible since one size definitely does not fit all in homeschooling. Curriculum might need to reflect the level of experience of the teacher, his or her preferences for specific teaching methods (e.g., Charlotte Mason) or religious elements. Likewise, it should take into account individual student needs and preferences, such as learning styles, a penchant for independent study, or a desire for computer-based instruction.
In this Webinar, curriculum expert Cathy Duffy will explain and demonstrate Home Ed Expert, an exciting new, online tool that helps homeschoolers choose the right curriculum for their students. Using Home Ed Expert, teachers can capture information about their own capabilities and teaching styles, as well as their children’s needs and learning styles. The tool then uses that information to identify the best educational resources for your homeschooling out of the vast array of options available.
There will be an opportunity to ask questions via interactive chat.
A free, three-month trial subscription is being offered to all HSLDA members. For more information visit http://homeedexpert.com.

8/9/2010 (10:30 PM EST): Learning Styles and Curriculum—Making the Right Choice
Having problems with uncooperative learners? Do you feel like your curriculum may be as much hindrance as it is a help? What about all those publishers who claim to have the best curriculum? How can we sort through all of this to figure out what will really be best for each of our children?
Understanding learning styles helps us overcome many of the problems we encounter in home education. In this @home e-vent, Cathy Duffy will help us first identify our own and our children’s learning styles. Then she will discuss methods of teaching to our children’s strengths and overcoming weaknesses using examples from various math programs. Bring your questions for the special Q&A portion of the presentation!
