Announcing 2009 Poetry Contest Winners
The results of the 2009 Poetry Contest are in! Students were asked to compose a Sestina poem responding to one of three quotes by famous authors. The judges were delighted with the entries they received-more than 200 poems were submitted in all three categories.
In Category I, students ages 7 to 10 wrote a sestina based on the
quote:
“It is better to deserve honors and not have them than to have them and not to deserve them.” -Mark Twain
For Category II, students ages 11 to 14 wrote a sestina based on the
quote:
“Love is a great beautifier.”-Louisa May Alcott
Finally, in Category III, students ages 15 to 19 wrote a sestina based on the quote:
“Nothing that you have not given away will ever be really yours.”
